Product Condition Guide

What each of the four condition labels — Neatly Used, Fairly Used, Used and Needs Repair — means on Declutter Abuja, so buyers and sellers describe items the same way.

Neatly Used

Previously owned or used but still in excellent condition and looks almost new. Neatly Used does not mean Brand New. The item must have been previously owned or used.

  • Very little or almost no visible signs of use.
  • Clean and well maintained.
  • No significant cosmetic damage.
  • Fully functional.
  • No known major defects.
  • All essential components present.
  • Example: A refrigerator used for a short period that still looks almost new and works perfectly.
  • Example: A laptop with minimal signs of use and no known functional issues.
  • Example: A sofa that looks almost new, with no noticeable tears or damage.
  • Example: A television with a clean screen and fully functional controls.

Fairly Used

Not new but in good overall condition, with normal and noticeable signs of previous use. Fully functional and suitable for continued use.

  • Some visible signs of use.
  • Minor scratches, marks or fading may be present.
  • Generally well maintained.
  • Functional and usable.
  • No known major faults affecting normal operation.
  • Example: A refrigerator with some scratches that cools properly.
  • Example: A laptop with visible keyboard wear that works properly.
  • Example: A sofa with slight fading but no serious structural damage.
  • Example: A washing machine with cosmetic wear but working functions.

Used

Used for a considerable period and shows noticeable signs of age, wear or deterioration, but remains functional and usable.

  • Visible wear from prolonged use.
  • More noticeable scratches, fading, stains or worn surfaces.
  • May have older components or accessories.
  • Still performs its primary function.
  • No undisclosed major functional defects.
  • Example: An older refrigerator with visible scratches and worn paint that still cools properly.
  • Example: A laptop with worn keys, an older battery or visible body wear that remains operational.
  • Example: A dining table with noticeable surface wear that remains structurally sound.
  • Example: A television with an older design and noticeable cosmetic wear that still works.

Needs Repair

Potentially usable or has some working components, but needs repair, maintenance or a replacement part before it can function properly. Needs Repair is not the same as Used. An item can look neat but still need repair — functional condition takes priority.

  • Has a known functional problem or maintenance requirement.
  • May work partially or intermittently.
  • May require replacement parts.
  • May not currently perform its primary function.
  • The seller must clearly disclose the problem.
  • Example: A refrigerator that powers on but does not cool properly.
  • Example: A laptop with a faulty keyboard or damaged charging port.
  • Example: A washing machine that turns on but does not spin.
  • Example: A television with a display problem.
  • Example: Furniture requiring structural repair.

Sellers must disclose known faults

Choosing a condition never replaces fault disclosure. Every listing states whether the item has any known functional fault, and describes it if so. Cosmetic issues (scratches, dents, fading, stains, cracks, broken or missing parts) are listed separately and should be visible in your photos. If a fault stops the item working properly, choose Needs Repair. Listings that hide known faults may be corrected, rejected or removed.
